The Power of Complete Surrender Day 5
Saying Yes to Hard Things
Devotional
The widow's offering wasn't just financially costly—it required tremendous courage. Giving everything she had to live on meant stepping into uncertainty, trusting God completely for her future needs. Her act of surrender wasn't easy; it was extraordinarily difficult. Following Jesus often calls us to do hard things. We may be asked to forgive someone who has deeply hurt us, to serve in an area where we feel inadequate, to speak truth when silence would be easier, or to give generously when our own resources seem limited. When faced with these challenges, our natural response might be hesitation or even refusal. "I can't do that. I don't have what it takes. That's too difficult for me." Yet some of God's greatest work happens when we say yes to the hard things He calls us to do. Interestingly, our areas of greatest resistance often become our areas of greatest blessing. The things we initially say "I will never" to frequently become the pathways to our most significant growth and impact. Today, God may be calling you to do something difficult—something that requires courage, sacrifice, or stepping outside your comfort zone. Remember that He doesn't call you to hard things and then leave you to accomplish them alone. When you surrender your inadequacy to Him, He provides everything you need to fulfill His purposes.
Bible Verse
"Truly I tell you, this poor widow has put more money into the treasury than all the others. They all gave out of their wealth; but she, out of her poverty, put in everything—all she had to live on." - Mark 12:43-44
Reflection Question
What hard thing might God be calling you to do that you've been hesitant to say yes to?
Quote
"God is looking for some people to do some hard stuff. God is looking for some people to stand up and say, okay, God, I don't know how. I don't know if I'm equipped. I don't know if I'm able. I don't know what I'm doing. But I'm going to do hard things because you are calling me to do hard things."
Prayer
Lord, give me courage to say yes to the hard things You call me to do. Help me to trust that when You call, You also equip. May I walk in Your purpose and experience Your blessing, even when the path is difficult. Amen.
