The God Who Sees Me: Day 4
Day 4: Returning with a Promise
Devotional
One of the most surprising elements of Hagar's story is God's instruction for her to return to her difficult situation. He didn't immediately rescue her from her circumstances – instead, He gave her something to carry back with her: a promise.
God promised Hagar that her son would become a great nation. This promise didn't erase her present difficulties, but it gave her a future to hold onto. It assured her that her current pain wasn't the end of her story.
Many of us face situations we'd rather run from – challenging relationships, difficult work environments, personal struggles that seem unending. God doesn't always remove us from these circumstances immediately. Sometimes, like Hagar, He asks us to return – but never without a promise to sustain us.
God's promises give us strength to face what would otherwise overwhelm us. They remind us that our current chapter isn't the end of our story. And they assure us that God is working, even when we can't see how.
Bible Verse
"Then the angel of the LORD told her, 'Go back to your mistress and submit to her.'" - Genesis 16:7
Reflection Question
What difficult situation are you facing that requires God's promise to endure? What promise from Scripture can you hold onto in this season?
Quote
Right there where you are, right in your mess, right in your hurt, right in your pain, right in the midst of your adversity, right in the middle of that thing that's trying to kill you, I'm gonna put a promise into your life, and that promise will sustain you.
Prayer
Lord, give me the courage to face difficult circumstances with Your promises firmly in my heart. When I want to run away, remind me that You see my struggle and have good plans for my future. Help me to trust that You are working even when I can't see how. Amen.
