The God Who Sees Me: Day 1
Day 1: Seen in Your Struggle
Devotional
Have you ever felt completely invisible? Not just overlooked, but truly unseen in your pain and struggle? Hagar knew this feeling intimately. As a slave caught in someone else's plan, she found herself pregnant, mistreated, and eventually fleeing into the desert with nowhere to go.
But in that desolate place, something extraordinary happened. God found her. The Creator of the universe saw this desperate woman when everyone else had either used her or forgotten her. He asked her about her past and her future, showing that He was fully aware of her story.
This encounter was so profound that Hagar gave God a new name: El Roi – the God who sees me. Not just my exterior, not just my actions, but me – completely and fully.
In our most desperate moments, when we feel abandoned or invisible, this truth remains: God sees us. Not with judgment or disappointment, but with perfect understanding and compassion. He sees beyond our circumstances to our hearts.
Bible Verse
"She gave this name to the LORD who spoke to her: 'You are the God who sees me,' for she said, 'I have now seen the One who sees me.'" - Genesis 16:7
Reflection Question
When was a time you felt unseen by others but later realized God was present and aware of your struggle all along?
Quote
I'm so glad that we serve a God that sees us. And when he sees us in our glorious mess, he doesn't turn his head. He loves us.
Prayer
El Roi, thank You for seeing me completely – my struggles, my pain, and my heart. Help me to rest in the comfort of being fully known and fully loved by You. When I feel invisible to the world, remind me that I am never invisible to You. Amen.
